Music is for Everybody!

Make a joyful noise to the Lord and join the Music Ministry at Christ Church Cranbrook

Do you like music? Do you have experience singing or playing an instrument? Do you have an interest or ability to offer your time and talent to our congregation through music? If so, please consider participating in one of our musical groups. There are several different ensembles to choose from, each with a unique focus. Are you unsure of your ability? Don’t be! There is a place for everyone to make a joyful noise at Christ Church Cranbrook; all are welcome. More than that, we need you! To participate in one of our ensembles, all that is asked is that you make a reasonable commitment of time, have the willingness to make an earnest effort, and share a desire for the experience of making wonderful music in this great congregation. Now is the best time to sign up, but new members are always welcome throughout the year. For more information, call the music office at 248.644.5210, ext. 37.

Christ Church Cranbrook Choir leads the congregation in singing and worship at the 10:00 a.m. service every Sunday, holidays, and other designated services, special concerts and events. Regular rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Guild Hall, and on Sunday mornings starting at 8:45 a.m.  The Christ Church Cranbrook Choir is open to anyone who likes to sing as long as they are willing to make a reasonable commitment to work together making beautiful music. However, individuals who can read music and have choral experience are particularly encouraged to join. The repertoire is greatly varied --  from the 16th to 21st century -- including a significant amount of standard sacred choral literature from all periods of music.

Men's Compline Choir chants the ancient monastic office of Compline which takes place every Sunday evening at 9:00 p.m., September through June. Rehearsals are on Sundays immediately preceding the service at 8:15 p.m. All interested individuals, regardless of their association with Christ Church Cranbrook, are encouraged to try out. Some music reading ability is essential. Those with significant choral experience with some background in singing chant are preferred.

C3 Music Ensemble is for all youthful musicians of any age and provides an opportunity to lead worship through a wide variety of non-traditional church music styles – folk, jazz, contemporary Christian, world music, etc. C3 presents music for worship about once a month and rehearses on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. Singers and instrumentalists of all sorts are welcome and encouraged to join.

Cranbrook Ringers, Carillon Ringers, Trinity Bells Christ Church Cranbrook boasts the largest handbell choir in the Midwest with a full six octaves of bronze handbells, cast by Schulmerich Carillons, Inc. and Malmark Bell Founders, augmented by six octaves of Malmark ChoirChimes. The Carillon Ringers handbell Choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 6 p.m.,; the Cranbrook Ringers rehease on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.; and the Trinity Bells rehearses on Tuesday at 10am in the Nave of the church.

Hymn Singer Choir is for those who like to sing and want to help on Sunday mornings only. Come at 9:30, review the hymns for the day, put on a robe,  and process with the choir. Those in the HSC  sit in the choir stalls and help lead the hymns and service music. This is a way to have a choral experience without the full commitment to the choir. Feel free to come  whenever you can, on those Sundays the CCC Choir is present — and get the best seat in the house!

Music Volunteers are always needed to help out in various ways: ushering at concerts, repairing choir robes, filing music, helping with receptions, office help, etc. There are lots of needs and opportunities to lend a hand in a non-musical way! Call the music office to find out more.

For more information and to sign up to participate in any of these opportunities, contact the music office at 248-644-5210 ext. 37 or 17.  New members are ALWAYS welcome throughout the year.
